Physical Fitness at Home During Pandemic


Staying active is important no matter what, but with COVID-19 and social distancing, it’s even more important to stay active at home. Exercise is the best way to keep your body healthy and strong. Exercise can help you fight stress, boost your mood, improve your sleep, and lower your risk of chronic disease, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. You can even boost your brain health by incorporating physical activity into your routine.

Get moving.

The physical demands of our daily lives have evolved drastically in the last few months. In addition to the obvious physical demands of work, household chores, and caring for children, there are also new challenges that are unique to COVID-19. We are encouraged to stay active at home, but this can be challenging if you are not used to physical activity. The good news is that there are some great ways to stay active at home even if you are not used to physical activity, or even if you are recovering from an injury.

Do short bursts of activity.

At home, take up activities you enjoy to help keep your mind and body active. Try a new sport or take up yoga or tai chi. Go for a walk or bike ride. Short bursts of activity can help you stay fit and keep you from getting bored. Plus, working out at home can help you combat feelings of isolation.

Mix it up.

It's important to stay active to maintain your health and to combat the boredom that can sometimes kick in when in quarantine. Exercise is also a great way to clear your mind. Try some gentle yoga or stretching to ease tension and keep your body flexible. If you feel up to it, consider adding strength training to your routine. Strength training builds muscle, which burns more calories, even when you're at rest.

Staying at home during the coronavirus crisis can provide an opportunity to focus on your health. Working out at home is an easy way to stay motivated and ensure you’re getting enough exercise. Even though you’re not in a gym, there are plenty of ways to stay physically active at home.

A great way to strength train is by doing high-rep, low-weight lifting. Perform each exercise for 10-15 repetitions, focusing on lifting with perfect form.


In order to stay physically fit at home, we need to incorporate some form of physical activity into our daily lives. Doing so can boost your mood, increase your energy levels, decrease your appetite, and even burn calories. Plus, there are many activities you can do to stay physically fit without having to step outside.
